Pork Hash

by Mike

Kraul Family Recipe, from Nieder-Ingelheim, Germany

(1) lb boneless pork chops
(4) Medium-sized potatoes
(1) Large white onion
(1) TBSP Bacon Grease
Salt and Pepper

Cut pork into bite-size pieces, and put in medium stock pot. Peel and slice potatoes, add to pork. Peel and chop the onion, add it to the pot as well. Add bacon grease, or simply chop up a slice of bacon and add it. Fill pot with water, add salt and pepper to taste, then simmer until meat and potatoes are done. Serve with saltine crackers. Very simple, and can be made in a slow cooker as well.

Hash is Delicious!
by: William B.

My great-grandparents were both children of German immigrants, and I remember her serving hash for Sunday night supper back in the 1940s when food rations limited her options. She never wrote down a recipe, and until I stumbled across your recipe here, I had all but forgotten this old-time soup. We made a pot this past Sunday, and I confess that I was a little teary-eyed; it tasted exactly like Nonna's! 80 years vanished, and I was a little boy again, eating supper with Nonna and Grandpa, if only for a short time. Thank you for sharing this recipe, and I heartily recommend it to everyone who enjoys a good soup.

We LOVE Hash!
by: Jennifer

I stumbled across this recipe here, and it reminded me of a pork soup that my great-grandmother made when I was a little girl. Hadn't thought of it in years, but I knew I had to make it. Well, it tasted exactly like I remembered it, and my family loves it! So easy, and inexpensive, I make it on the weekend and double the quantity and then we reheat it for a quick supper during the week. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this recipe!!

Hash is delicious!!
by: Carrie

I found this recipe, and it reminded me of a soup my grandmother made when I was a little girl. She put celery and carrots in hers, but I think I like this recipe better, you really taste the meat and potatoes. My family loved it too, will definitely be making this again!!
